I think I messsed up...

thinking over the second project (handed in a few weeks ago) - I realised I was supposed to make a 'video loop' of the stuff. S**T. I get so concentrated on my sidetracked ideas I think I know exactly what i'm going to do and don't even realise the proper importance of READING the fucking thing FIRST.

So I'm waiting ... for the guy who marked it, to tell me the bad news....

shit happens!... - so I have to read and reread the final assignment - BEFORE I hand it in. Lucky really since I hadn't read it at all - I never had any idea where any description of the assignment is but after it was pointed out to me where to look I realised I was again going to take a tangent. And be amusingly irrelevant. Again...

and now for imagery that cumulatively is all about mass-marketing something I passionately HATE:

'Macca's' is an American-originated organisation that stands for making vile profits by actively marketing toxic foods  made with the cheapest nastiest ingredients. Fats are sky-high in Low-Density Lipo-protiens that bind to blood vessels to restrict bloodflow. Godbless the f**ng American sharemarket laws that dictate above all that things must be for the best returns to the shares.

uh- Anyway... like I was saying... This product signifies to me the rot that is said to be an "almighty" American dominator. We've all been treated with dietary contempt but that's OK... right??

I feel better now.

This is a more specific work of hers; using massive projectors to illuminate building walls with text, it is projected and rolls upward (ie, 'down the page'). This work is particularly effective as it is a moving piece on a vast scale over a variety of 'canvasses'. It is not in any way vile simplistic or ignorant rather it provokes imagery by suggestion and context.

I think. ;-)
texturing... the third project (I think): found in:

Exclusive Episode #047: Jenny Holzer discusses her difficult relationship to writing during the installation of the exhibition "PROTECT PROTECT" at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago. Featured works include "Red Yellow Looming" (2004), "Lustmord" (2007), "Protect Protect deep purple" (2007), and "For Chicago" (2008), among others. The exhibition traveled to the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York in March, 2009.
Whether questioning consumerist impulses, describing torture, or lamenting death and disease, Jenny Holzer’s use of language provokes a response in the viewer. While her subversive work often blends in among advertisements in public space, its arresting content violates expectations. Holzer’s texts—such as the aphorisms “abuse of power comes as no surprise” and “protect me from what I want”—have appeared on posters and condoms, and as electronic LED signs and projections of xenon light. Holzer’s recent use of text ranges from silk-screened paintings of declassified government memoranda detailing prisoner abuse, to poetry and prose in a 65-foot wide wall of light in the lobby of 7 World Trade Center, New York.

00:00:16I have no idea whether I’ll write again.
00:00:21One reason why I left it was because I tend to write about the most ghastly subjects, so it’s not just the difficulty in having something turn out right,
00:00:30it’s the difficulty of staying with the material long enough to complete it.
00:00:40It’s necessary to be emotionally engaged when writing about these topics, so yes it’s exhausting at times.
00:00:57It's difficult to do the research on what happened and what might still be happening to various detainees, but I don’t want to wine. It would be much harder to be a detainee.
00:01:18I'll leap away from the word values. I am afraid to talk about values these days. It's usually anytime values are invoked, it’s to dismiss it or may be incarcerate somebody.
00:01:40But I would like there to be less fear and less cruelty stand on that and I would like to think I have some plain old empathy too.
00:01:59I am the opposite of the theater person because I would never be on stage. My work might be like theater in that I hope there is an audience.
00:02:13There is a reason I am anonymous in my work.
00:02:17I like to be absolutely out of view and out of ear shot.

what the... ????!!!

It's never fun feeling there's the whole weekend (ok,today anyway) to work on projects but there's ALWAYS plenty to stuff it up... Despite best intentions it turns out the video of table is F*&KED and I'll probably have to re-shoot it. I always seem to need help. GRRR.

first attempt at camera panning

yesterday I tried (mostly unsuccessfully!) to take panning shots of the table for hifi project - not great because i didn't have spot lighting (downstairs in video/emedia lab) and the scene wasn't great... decided it was more getting to know the camera... bit of a dud I suspect

ok now I think I know it's nearly done...

And no I haven't got a memory stick that works yet... hope it's still in existence tomorrow morning...! All I need to do to finish up is to make the intro to the clip a composite - I'm currently too scared of $%&ng it up and can't work out how to so maybe tomorrow...
